Victoria Newlyn
Michael Higgins and Ian Tindale, piano
Neil Ferris, conductor

A special performance of Brahms’ choral masterpiece, interspersed with poetry and texts exploring life and beyond, read by Victoria Newlyn.

We are delighted to be returning to St James’s, Piccadilly for a special performance of the 1871 London version of Brahms Ein Deutsches Requiemarranged by the composer for piano duet.

Sonoro will be joined by renowned actor and performer Victoria Newlyn who will intersperse texts and poetry tied to the theme ‘Life and beyond between the movements of the Requiem and will feature works by writers such as Thomas HardyJohn DonneWilliam Shakespeare and Khalil Gibran among others.

By incorporating these readings into our performance of Brahms’s optimistic Requiem, we aim to give you a deeper insight into the reasons why Brahms himself chose not to set the traditional Requiem Mass. The texts have been chosen to enhance the music, add to the atmosphere, and create a wider, more fulfilling experience.
