Supporting Cancer Research UK

Welcome to our online concert – the culmination of a month of online rehearsals exploring the beautiful, comforting, ethereal and profoundly moving masterpiece that is Fauré’s Requiem. Our online choir have been sending in recordings week by week, with guide tracks having been prepared by the Dionysus Ensemble and Sonoro. We are so happy to be joined by the outstanding young voices of the Royal Scottish National Orchestra Junior Chorus to sing the Pie Jesu, and by the internationally renowned bass-baritone Matthew Brook.

The performance of the Requiem is preceded by a short motet of Fauré’s teacher – Camille Saint-Saëns – and a beautiful vignette from Cécile Chaminade. We have heightened the sense of occasion by placing our performers ’virtually’ in the church of La Madeleine, Paris, the venue of the first performance of the piece and where Fauré was titular organist. We have also used sampled sounds of the church’s magnificent Cavaillé-Coll organ to add to the atmosphere.

We are very happy to have another project that is able to support Cancer Research UK through our relationship with Requiem to Cancer. Please consider a suggested minimum donation of £10 via the donation page.

We hope that you enjoy this performance.
